Donald Trump has a beautiful, babbling new reason to make America great again—an eighth grandchild.

His 34-year-old daughter Ivanka, a successful entrepreneur in her own right, and her husband, Jared Kushner, welcomed Theodore James, her third child, joining daughter Arabella and son Joseph, on Sunday evening.

Baby Theodore was surely the sweetest treat of all for the Trump family on Easter Sunday, arriving just as Grandpa Don slugs it out for delegates in the G.O.P. primaries. The Wharton-educated Ivanka is an executive vice president in the Trump Organization, while running her own eponymous line of jewelry, handbags, footwear, fragrances, and accessories. Kushner owns The New York Observer and the real estate holding company Kushner Properties.

Theodore was a Trump-campaign mainstay months before he made his way into the world. For weeks, Trump had been promising voters in various states that Ivanka, who traversed the country to stump for her father virtually up until the day she gave birth, could give birth to an Iowa baby, or a New Hampshire baby, or a South Carolina baby. He begged his daughter to make it so. “I said, ‘Ivanka, it would be great if you had your baby in Iowa.’ I really want that to happen. I really want that to happen,” he told a group of veterans in Iowa. “I’m sure there are great hospitals here,” Ivanka told supporters in New Hampshire. At the American Israel Public Affairs Committee convention on Monday, less than a week before Ivanka gave birth, Trump announced that his daughter, who converted to Judaism for her nuptials to Kushner, was “about to have a beautiful Jewish baby.” (The Easter timing, then, is even more precious.)

As voters pinned their hopes on another heir to the Trump throne being born in their home state, the family’s excitement mounted, too. “I cannot wait!” Ivanka posted on Instagram six weeks ago, gleefully wrapping her hands around her bump. “I am looking forward to a year filled with love, laughter and adventure with my incredible husband, Jared, and our (growing) family,” she posted a few weeks earlier on New Year’s Day. Ivanka’s brother Donald Jr. said his children were “thrilled” to be gaining another cousin when Ivanka announced her pregnancy in September.

She held out on the trail, to her father’s likely dismay and the disappointment of many rural voters. Ivanka ushered in her third third-generation-of-New-York-billionaire baby in the comforts of her own city (and the extreme comfort of its luxury maternity suites).

By all accounts, Donald Trump the Grandfather bears little resemblance to the insult-hurling, quarrelsome Donald Trump the Candidate. A November interview with Barbara Walters on ABC’s 20/20 showed the parade of his then seven grandchildren into his cluttered Trump Tower office. They all greeted him warmly, earning a light hug and kisses on the side of their heads from the patriarch.

“He’s at a different stage in his life, he’s able to relax a little bit more and be a grandfather. I can see my kids just running up to him and giving a hug,” said Donald Jr., who has five children of his own, Donny III among them. “They just respect him a lot.”

At the time, Ivanka told Walters that her daughter, Arabella, pointed to a pothole in the middle of the street and noted that her grandfather would not be happy with it.

Ivanka joked that her children have already started to take after their grandfather. “And she’s four,” she said. “She’s observed him.”

Little Teddy or T.J., whatever they choose to call him, will have plenty to observe over the coming months, as his grandfather tries to clear the path to the White House. Who knows? Maybe Theodore will even get a gilded nursery put in for him in the West Wing. With the surname Trump in the mix, truly, anything is possible.
