Urge the EU citizens to avoid all travel to Turkey
Urge the EU citizens to avoid all travel to Turkey
Why this petition matters
Amid the escalating diplomatic conflict between Amsterdam and Ankara (involving now Berlin), European tourists in Turkey are increasingly facing extreme violence, street assault and public abuse from the local population. To our knowledge some Europeans have already been illegally detained by the Turkish police, there have been cases of barbaric attacks on European tourists and their children committed by Turkish nationalists, as well as cases of sexual harassment of European women. Service personnel of Turkish hotels, restaurants and entertainment venues now seem to be united in discriminating against European tourists. Every day thousands of unsuspecting European citizens leave their homes for the country where they face high risk of being robbed, kidnapped or raped!
Considering the recent political developments along with deliberate ignorance of Turkish authorities and open display of animosity on behalf of Turkish people toward tourists coming to Turkey from the EU member states, we, the undersigned, demand that all European offices being responsible for foreign policy affairs promptly remove Turkey from the list of countries that are safe for Europeans to visit and give an official travel advise to avoid all travel to that country. Europeans that are currently staying in Turkey should be recommended to exercise a high degree of caution, avoid any public gatherings and when possible stay at their hotels. EU consular missions in Turkey need to provide the EU citizens with full-fledged consular protection if necessary.
